More Progress for Mario

Mario is really starting to settle into retirement nicely. When he first got here 3 weeks ago he was shy and skittish, but now he's figuring out how greyt retired life is! He's got good house manners and crates easily, and even the scary open-backed stairs to our backyard aren't a problem for him anymore.

In the past week he's started roaching and smiling, and even cuddling a bit, all of which are really cute. Here's a picture of him exhibiting the classic greyhound "bendy nose" sleeping position. :-)

Update on Mario

Mario is still doing very well adjusting to retirement. He's learning the routine around our house and is getting along well with our resident greys. Here's a picture of him napping with the other two hounds here while I was working in our home office:

He's the one on the far left. Look at that big smile on his face! He tends to sleep with his mouth open and he makes these cute, funny snoring noises when he sleeps. :-)

He crates well and will do his business either off or on leash. He's also learning about fun treats like ice cream and cantaloupe (which he really seems to like). Yesterday Mario's foster dad was eating some chips and Mario wanted one, so he sat down right in front of him until he got a chip! I don't know if he learned that at the kennel or from watching our resident hound. We had no idea he knew how to sit so we were very surprised!

Speaking of Mario's foster dad - he has come up with a cute nickname for Mario. He calls him Mario Speedwagon. :-)

Mario Loves Retirement

Say hello to Mario!

Mario has been with us for almost a week and he's doing great! He's a very sweet boy, although he has been a little bit skittish about all of the new and different things he's experienced in the past week. Sometimes when he hears a new sound (like the dishwasher or ice maker) he'll run out of the room, but then poke his head around the corner to get a better look. :-)

He gets along well with our resident grey and our other foster Royal. They did such a good job teaching Mario the stairs that he learned them in his first afternoon here! He also has the funniest ears that curl backwards at the tips.

He's starting to learn that retired life is pretty sweet, and enjoys spending time in our back yard and taking naps on the couch. He'll make a wonderful pet for the lucky person or people who decide to give him his forever home!
